MORPHOGENESIS / Program note

Alpha & Omega

Genesis

About the work

Alpha & Omega begins with the idea that where there is a beginning, there is an ending, and where there is an ending, there is a beginning. The work embodies an endless cycle of interlocking beginnings and endings in musical form. The three performers who create the work become its origin: Genesis.

Musical structure

The opening and closing sections connect to form a cycle in which beginnings and endings repeat. Within this flow, the work contains the processes of morphogenesis: emergence and repetition, differentiation and growth. Alongside melody, rhythm and harmony, space and timbre are treated as elements that constitute the music.

Technology & performance

The three team members create and control the elements arising within the work in real time. They directly shape space and timbre as well as melody, rhythm and harmony, forming a live performance whose development is driven by the performers' control.

Program note

Musical structure

Work: Alpha & Omega
Where there is a beginning, there is an ending; where there is an ending, there is a beginning. Based on this idea, our team connects the opening and closing sections of the work, embodying an infinite cycle in which beginnings and endings interlock and repeat countless times within the form of music. Our music contains the entire process of morphogenesis: emergence and repetition, differentiation and growth. Beyond the musical elements of melody, rhythm and harmony, we directly control space and timbre as well. The three team members create and control every element arising within the work in real time. In this way, the team members become the work's origin: Genesis.
